Camp Ray-Ray has been held atSt. Malo Retreat and Conference Center since 1995. St. Malo is owned and operated by the Catholic Archdiocese of Denver. St. Malo is nestled at the foot of Mount Meeker in the heart of the Rocky Mountains, minutes from Estes Park, and borders Rocky Mountain National Forest. St. Malo's breathtaking surroundings offer peace, quiet, and relaxation.
Staying at St. Malo feels like retreating to a lovely ranch-style hotel. There are 49 rooms each with a full bath, but in line with the rustic feel of the surroundings, telephones and televisions are not very accessible (not in rooms). The St. Malo staff does NOT clean the rooms and re-supply towels. It is the responsibility of each family to maintain the cleanliness of your rooms as you like it. You must also ask the front desk if you need more towels. When you check out, St. Malo staff will clean each room. All staff - front desk, maintenance, kitchen, and management - work for the Catholic Archdiocese of Denver.
Camp Ray-Ray is a memoriam to Angel Raymond Pena who died from AIDS at the age of four. He enjoyed the Rocky Mountains and wanted other kids living with AIDS to enjoy St. Malo, a spot he thought God had made entirely for him. Camp Ray-Ray is also a time to celebrate and honor the memories of other AIDS Angels:
Winnie Braxton, Joe Chavez, Lesbia Cruz, Clarice Foos, Lloyd Gardner, Joshua Gomes, Mike King, Willie Laporte, Pam Martin, Steve Prince, Bernadette Richardson, Steffanie Salas, Marcella Sanchez, Ric Shack, Ryan Sheridan, Dave Tharp, Joanne Ticali, and Andy Tuff.
Driving from Denver, it takes about 1½ - 2 hours to reach St. Malo.
