The magic of Camp Ray-Ray continued for the fifteenth year. Smiles, hugs and fun were shared with families adorned by masks, feathers, beads and more beads. The Mardi Gras parade revealed the unique gifts and diversity of the twenty-three families who came from three different states and multiple countries. We welcomed six new families and enjoyed the company of our dear friends of old. Kenny May was the hit with children of all ages sharing his strength, humor, laughter, and energy with all. Horseback rides filled up quickly as did the vans to go to Fun City and canoeing. Others were content to stay in the beautiful confines of St. Malo where they were pampered with massages, manicures, hair cuts and tasty treats.
Three major competitions took place during the Mardi Gras festivities. First up was Camp Ray-Ray’s Got Talent which was dominated by the youth this year with top awards going to:
·
Jordyn Driver for the Most Inspiring,·
Jontue Celestine for the Best Moves,·
Caleb and Dylan did not disappoint us by taking The Funniest Act,·
Show Stoppers went to the Wright girls,·
Best Group went to the Kids Dance·
Kira Williams and company won the award for the Shortest Act,·
Shane Dowling captured our hearts winning the Cutest Act, and·
Our Fabulous Four volunteer teens proved Most Likely to Appear on UTube. Thanks to all the participants – you really do have talent!
Next, families competed in the Amazing Race learning more things about Mardi Gras than they ever thought imaginable. Being new to camp didn’t stop the Isaac family from tearing through the course with the Salas/Gardner family nipping at their heels, The Bottomley/Forestner family duo came in a close third with all families having a great time.
Rounding out the weekend competitions was the Texas Hold ‘em Poker Tournament with Kenny May going all in to take the pot from Wayne Celestine and David Johnson.
A special thanks to all the volunteers and donors for their hard work and generosity. None of this would be possible without you.
